Enchilada Wednesday

Coach had a doctors appointment today. Fortunately we were able to get there after and before the storms that were passing through the area. I took this picture.
Cool looking but almost a little scary too.

After the appointment we went to lunch at El Fenix. Nothing makes a day better than cheese enchiladas and salsa. To top if off it is enchilada Wednesday and the meal is $4.99. I feel a little better now.

Another Doiley

It is actually raining here today. If my RA is going to "pain" me because of weather at least I want some rain out of it. Had lots of lightening too. Here is another doiley crocheted by my grandma. Love the color on it.

Happy Birthday Jonathan!

Cannot believe it has been this long since I held that little bundle. Well, an 8lb 13oz and 23 inches long bundle. Here are some pix. Happy Birthday Jonathan, a mother's love never changes no matter what else does.

Kind of some big feet.

Grease-a-palousa

Yes we here in Texas like everything fried. This is evident in the fact that at the Great State Fair of Texas in October people have come up with all kinds of foods to fry up. Most of these are things you would never think of frying but hey some of them are actually good. Today we went to The Ponderosa and TJ and Allison fried us up a yummy meal. It all started when I said I would like some wings and just went from there. We had fried wings, fried potatoes, fried dill pickles (so yummy), fried home grown onion rings, and fried mushrooms. They were all so yummy. Then we had a coconut cake for dessert that was out of this world. It was not fried but it could have been. (Have you heard that one of the fried foods at the State Fair of Texas this year is going to be fried Girl Scout Samoa cookies? I watched them make them. Count me in.) It was a fun day of eating and watching the grandgirls play in the swimming pool. Welcome Summer.

Enjoying the spread.

The girls swimming.

Lets see if we can spash all the water out of the pool.

Bumble enjoying the afternoon.

All this playing is hard work.

Squash

This week while I was at The Ponderosa getting ready for Jo's graduation I got some squash. Allison's garden is starting to really get going. She has been making a ton of pickles. The island in the kitchen was covered with squash. She told me to take some, all of it  if I wanted because both the yellow and zucchine are going crazy. Well nothing is better than squash cooked in olive oil with fresh sliced onion, and black olives. Since Coach is not a fan of squash I decided to freeze a bunch of it so I can have it when he thinks he needs a potato or something. Here is this morning's work. I left four squash for Coach to grill tonight when he cooks meat for supper. They are pretty if I do say so myself. Reminds me of summers with Pop and Granny.

Congratulations Jo!!

Unbelievable. Jo graduated from kindergarten tonight. I can't believe the first grandbaby has now reached a big milestone. Congratulations Jo! We are so proud of you and love you bunches.

Opening some presents and getting ready to have cake.

Getting ready to head to graduation.
Note the fuzzy flipflops I made her to match her cap and gown.

Unfortunately the lighting in the gym was very dark
and it was hard to get a clear picture but here is Jo
receiving her diploma.
Time is moving too quickly.

Congrats Kim!!

Today my niece Kim graduates from high school. She plans on following sister Meg at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Congrats Kim, we are proud of you!

Another Doiley

Here is another doiley JE and I found. The amount of work in some of these works of art is unbelievable. I like this one with the touch of color. Eventually when things calm down a little I plan to make sure I have a photo of each one with info on when it was possible done. JE says 1940's and 50's for most of them. Then I  plan on making a photo album so family can see this beautiful work.

Crocheted Beauty

When I was twenty my Grandma taught me to crochet. Recently when JE and I were going through some old boxes of my Mother's we found some more crocheted wonders. I decided to take pictures of them and  periodically post them. The detail work on some of these are unbelievable. These were hot pads that look as though they never were used. I certainly won't use them. They are so beautiful that I am thinking of hanging them on the wall. The backs are as pretty as the fronts. They were crocheted in fine crochet cotton the fronts in pink and the backs in white. Unfortunately the detail of the work does not show up as well as I hoped. Of course a lot of the work was done in the 40's and 50's before the advent of continual television. I knit while watching TV but there are some things that I won't work on if they have a lot of detail. These are truly treasures to me.

The A Word

Chronic Curve has a great post about arthritis is and is not. Check it out. Go to my links below and click on Chronic Curve. What most people do not understand is that Autoimmune Arthritis is not the "arthritis" that just affects joints. It is a systemic disease. Check out her info.
